Help our Emergency Rural Case

Two weeks ago, we received an emergency plea to help with a rural shelter that closed due to inhumane practices and improper care of dogs. When we found out that over 60+ dogs in the facility were at-risk and needed help ASAP, our team didn't hesitate to jump into action. We immediately scheduled a transport to drive the 3+ hrs with our staff and sent out an urgent plea for fosters.

We did not know what to expect, but nothing could have prepared us for what we saw. The conditions were horrific, with dogs being left in their kennels for 6+ months, living in their filth, with little access to clean water and consistent food, and no vet on the staff caring for them medically.

It was truly devastating to know the dogs had been living this way, some for years, knowing so many had passed due to no access to proper medical care, and many were euthanized. Dogs were covered in feces, underweight, and stressed. There was a room with 20+ puppies that were all sickly, with two needing major emergency surgeries and five heartworm cases.

The filth, the smell, and the noise were beyond anything we had ever seen, but our team went to work to get the dogs to safety. Between our incredible staff and foster families, Wags & Walks saved 35 dogs. At a minimum, Wags will spend $20,000 caring for these pups. This case has weighed heavy on our team, and we are grateful for a community that opens its hearts and homes to dogs in need.
