Other dogs exhibit brachycephalic characteristics at the surgeon’s discretion. The brachycephalic dog's flattened features can cause various medical problems and be especially concerning for anesthetic safety. Brachycephalic dogs are more likely to have complications with surgery recovery post-anesthesia. In recovery, their airway can be compromised and cause breathing issues or other medical complications. Please get in touch with a full-service veterinarian to spay/neuter your brachycephalic dog.
FAQs
What is spay/neuter surgery?
Spay/neuter refers to the surgical procedure to render a dog unable to produce litters of puppies. Female animals are "spayed," and male animals are "neutered."
What age can my dog be spayed or neutered?
Dogs can be spayed/neutered beginning when they are 10 weeks old or when they weigh 5 pounds. If females are spayed before their first heat (which usually occurs when they are five to six months old), breast cancer can be almost completely prevented. Younger pets also recover more quickly from the surgery and experience less pain following surgery than older pets.
What are the benefits of getting spayed/neutered?
- Reduces animal homelessness, shelter intake, and euthanasia rates
- Stops reproduction and heat cycles
- Decreases risk of certain types of cancer
- May prevent certain behavioral problems: roaming, fighting, "marking" territory, and aggression
- Decreases risk of reproductive infections
What can I expect for drop off?
When you arrive, you will text our Clinic Phone line a description of your vehicle and name of pet, and our staff will bring out a check-in form. You will receive a text message when we are ready to have you bring your dog inside. If your dog seems to be nervous or anxious, please let us know in your initial text.
What can I expect for pick-up?
When arriving for pick-up, you can come inside the Adoption Center and check-in at the front desk to ensure you've completed payment. A staff member will then bring your dog to the lobby and review post-op care instructions. There may be a 5-10 minute wait upon arrival.
What is included in the fee?
Spay/Neuter Surgery, E-collar cone, pain medication
Can we speak with the veterinarian?
No, unfortunately not. Our vets are not available on-call.
Do I need to come back for suture removal?
No, you do not need to return with your pet for suture removal. Stitches are buried, absorbable, and will dissolve in approximately 3 months.
Are there recheck appointments or follow-ups?
No, there are not. The only exception would be approved through our medical team.
Can my pet have other procedures/services performed while there?
We commonly perform simple umbilical hernia repairs and remove HIND dew claws that do not have bony attachments at the doctor's discretion. Additional offerings that come at an additional cost are: ear cleaning, nail trims, anal gland expression, heartworm tests, bloodwork, microchip, and post-op fluids.
Can I get vaccines, microchips, or in house bloodwork at my pet’s visit?
Yes! This just needs to be added in the additional services section when scheduling.
Does my pet need to be up-to-date on vaccines?
No, we do offer vaccines if you wish to have them administered and it is an additional cost. *WE DO REQUIRE RABIES, and if you do not show proof of rabies vaccination we will automatically give, and you will be charged $15 dollars.
How do I pay for services?
You will pay through our Clinic HQ payment portal. You will receive a text with a payment link while they are in our care. Unfortunately, we cannot accept cash or checks.
Do we offer Care Credit?
At this time we do not, but this may change in the future.
Do you have a grant program?
Not at this time, but we are working on creating a program to assist those in need in our community.
Will you do the procedure on aggressive dogs?
No, we do not see aggressive pets for the safely of our staff and clients.
By supporting our clinic, you help reduce overpopulation and help improve the lives of dogs and their families while advancing animal welfare. Together, we can ensure every dog has the opportunity to live a healthy, happy life.
