Wags & Walks is a 501c3 nonprofit dog rescue located in Nashville and Los Angeles— we share nonprofit identification, but we operate separately with different staff, processes, budgets, and dogs. As a whole, we are a community of dog lovers working to promote shelter dogs as the best dogs in the world through advocacy of our unique family-friendly foster and adoption programs.

+ Marketing & Communications Coordinator

SUMMARY We’re seeking a motivated, creative Marketing Coordinator to join our team. This is a role designed for a creative storyteller who is passionate about brand engagement and saving dogs in need. Your duties will include a wide range of activities, from content creation and social media management to storytelling. The ideal candidate will have a strong marketing background, impeccable organization skills, excellent communication skills, strong writing and storytelling skills, and the ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.

This is a full-time position.

About You:

You are creative and full of ideas, whether brainstorming social media content, marketing materials, campaign strategies, or graphic design assets. You have an eye for photography, you know good branding, and can whip out unique, engaging content with ease. You know the power of storytelling and understand precisely how to embrace a brand voice and leverage social media to engage an audience.

  • You are organized and keep things in place, so it’s easily accessible and managed. You are efficient and manage your time like a pro, keeping yourself on schedule so you never miss a deadline and double-checking to verify nothing falls through the cracks.
  • If something needs to be done, you hop in to get the job done or have a solution or recommendation on how to execute. You take initiative.
  • You are detail-oriented. You notice that extra period, the eye boogie that needs to be photoshopped, the grammar errors, and the brightness in the image that needs to be adjusted. You go the extra mile because you know the details matter.
  • You are curious. If you don’t know how to do something, you will do your best to figure it out. You love learning new things, whether social media-related or a new skill. You’re also not afraid to seek out support when needed.

About Our Team:

We are a dedicated community of dog lovers working to reduce euthanasia in local shelters and increase awareness of rescue dogs being wonderful pets. We are ambitious with our goals, and we are always looking for better ways to serve our community. In rescue, adaptability is key, change is inevitable, and a love for the dogs is crucial. Our work is fast-paced and ever-evolving. Our Nashville location started small and grew incredibly fast, and we’re always inspired and motivated to explore how we can improve our practices for our pups, our programs, and our people. We have fun, but we work hard.

Duties & Responsibilities

MARKETING

  • Brainstorm creative concepts and ideas for building awareness, helping dogs get adopted, and promoting Wags & Walks programs
  • Maintain a thorough understanding of Wags & Walks brand and storytelling guidelines
  • Work collaboratively with the Associate Director to ensure social content is aligned with brand aesthetics, brand strategy, and brand identity
  • Join all relevant meetings and calls for marketing and promo needs
  • Make changes/revisions to the website and copy as needed to ensure it stays up-to-date
  • Master the Wags tone of voice and write compelling copy for use across key fundraising campaigns, partnerships, and programs
  • Oversee weekly e-newsletters, summarizing opportunities to get involved or support Wags & Walks
  • Assist with designing and developing marketing materials for events, campaigns, and brand assets using Canva and Adobe Creative Suite
  • Ensure consistency of brand messaging across all digital channels

SOCIAL MEDIA

  • Manage and maintain a yearly content calendar, helping to generate new ideas
  • Create compelling and engaging content for social media channels
  • Oversee the scheduling of posts for Instagram/Facebook
  • Ensure the team meets deadlines to post as planned
  • Maintain the Social Media Schedule, Content Tracker, and Digital Assets
  • Help ensure photo and video content from fosters is up-to-date and accurate, questionnaires are filled out, and bios are completed in a timely manner
  • Oversee the organization and maintenance of our digital content archive
  • Maintain the Available Dogs page on the website and Petfinder, ensuring both sites are updated, and all adoptable dogs are represented.
  • Help ensure photo playdates are coordinated as needed to obtain the content necessary for promotion
  • Craft captions for all social media posts
  • Oversee the Facebook account with the goal of building engagement on that account
  • Oversee the Tiktok account with the goal of increasing our posts, building engagement, and increasing our following on that platform
  • Create Storytelling Reels/TikToks for promotion (e.g., medical, fundraising campaigns, harder-to-adopt dogs)
  • Create other content for social media that aligns with the overall storytelling strategies of the organization
  • Support fundraising campaigns via content creation, direct outreach, or as needed.

PARTNERSHIPS

  • Work alongside Directors to assist with partnership relations that include marketing or promo components
  • Collaborate with the team to ensure all necessary partner marketing materials are obtained, promoted, and successfully integrated into campaigns
  • Help with content creation needed for partnerships and ensure all partnership agreements are executed fully

Qualifications & Skills

  • Education: Bachelor's degree preferred
  • Experience: 1-3 years of experience in a similar role (e.g., marketing coordinator, social media coordinator, content creator, etc.). Familiarity with animal welfare or nonprofit work is a plus.
  • Technical Skills: Proficiency with computers, including: Word, Excel, Shopify, Slack, and Google Suite, with the ability to learn new technologies quickly. Must be able to execute in Graphic design (basic skills in Canva, Photoshop, or similar tools) and skilled in photography and video editing (for reels, stories, and posts).
  • Additional Skills: Familiarity with retail, merchandising, and inventory management.
  • Physical Requirements: Ability to sit at a desk for several hours and lift up to 50 lbs (e.g., kennel crates, dog food, supplies).
  • Driver’s License: Must have a valid Tennessee Driver’s License.

SCHEDULING & BENEFITS

Salary: $20-22/Hourly Full Time: 40 hours per week Availability to work evenings and one weekend day. Tuesday-Saturday schedule

+ Volunteer & Office Coordinator

SUMMARY

The Office & Volunteer Coordinator at Wags & Walks plays a crucial role in ensuring that everyone who enters our Adoption Center has a positive and welcoming experience. This role involves leading front desk duties, maintaining a clean and safe environment, and managing our retail space. Additionally, the Coordinator will be responsible for the recruitment, onboarding, communication, and retention of our valued volunteers.

We’re looking for someone who is outgoing, enthusiastic, and highly organized—someone who takes pride in creating a warm and inviting atmosphere for adopters, volunteers, fosters, donors, and the public. The ideal candidate is passionate about animal rescue, empathetic, skilled in problem-solving, and comfortable engaging with diverse groups of people

Location: Hermitage, TN (100 Bonnabrook Dr.)

Office Coordination Responsibilities

  • Front Desk Management**: Greet guests, respond to phone calls, mail, and emails at our Adoption Center.
  • Maintain a Safe Environment**: Ensure the office is clean, safe, and welcoming
  • Guest & Volunteer Support**: Maintain traffic flow during operating hours, greet visitors and volunteers, and direct them as needed.
  • Daily Operations**: Assist with various tasks, including managing shipments and supporting staff and volunteer needs.
  • Administrative oversight**: Monitor office expenditures and handle office contracts (services, maintenance, shipments, etc.).
  • Vendor Relations**: Help manage vendor and third-party relationships and maintain office supplies (e.g., utilities, contractors, etc.). *** Retail Space Management**: Help maintain the retail space by tracking inventory, updating pricing, and managing Shopify.
  • Scheduling & Appointments**: Help manage team calendars, set appointments, and coordinate meetings.
  • Cross-Team Collaboration**: Work closely with other teams to accomplish project goals and ensure volunteer policies and procedures are met
  • Professional Development**: Participate in training sessions and development opportunities provided by Wags & Walks.

Volunteer Coordination Responsibilities

  • Recruitment & Coordination**: Assist with recruiting, communicating with, and managing volunteers, including fulfilling volunteer requests and providing guidance for onsite volunteers..
  • Volunteer Program Growth**: Strategize and implement ways to expand our reach and improve volunteer engagement.
  • Orientation & Training**: Coordinate and help lead bi-weekly volunteer orientations, as well as schedule and post-volunteer training sessions.
  • Volunteer Inquiries**: Serve as the point of contact for volunteer inquiries and assist with volunteer scheduling as needed.
  • Event Coordination**: Lead events and programs that require volunteer involvement, such as Puppy Yoga, Volunteer Days at the Adoption Center, Puppies & Pilates, etc.
  • Relationship Building**: Cultivate positive relationships with new and existing volunteers to enhance their connection to Wags & Walks and improve retention.
  • Process Improvement:** Evaluate departmental processes and provide recommendations for improvements.
  • Volunteer Engagement**: Develop strategies to engage volunteers and support the organization’s needs. Engage the Volunteer Facebook Group, assist with volunteer social media activities, and oversee the volunteer appreciation program, including coordinating bi-annual appreciation events and gifts.

  • Additional Skills: Familiarity with retail, merchandising, and inventory management is a plus.
  • Technical Skills: Proficiency with computers, including Word, Excel, Shopify, Slack, and Google Suite, with the ability to learn new technologies quickly.

SCHEDULING & BENEFITS

Salary: $18/Hourly

Full Time: 40 hours per week

Availability to work evenings and one weekend day. Our Adoption Center is open 3-7 pm on weekdays, 10am-3pm on weekends.

Example schedule:

Tuesday-Friday 11a.m.-7p.m., Saturday 9a.m.-4p.m.

Sunday 9a.m.-4p.m., Monday-Thursday 11a.m.-7p.m.

+ Animal Caretaker

SUMMARY

Our Animal Caretakers are responsible for overseeing the care and wellbeing of all of the dogs that are in our adoption center. This job requires an outgoing, enthusiastic and hard working person to help us grow our rescue, and someone who has experience working with animals. This is a physically demanding job but also an extremely rewarding one. Dog lovers are encouraged to apply but it's not a requirement.

  • Follows cleaning, feeding and watering protocols to maintain the health of all animals.
  • Ensures every dog in our care is walked every four hours at a minimum. Keep boards and kennel cards updated in real time.
  • Adheres to isolation and quarantine protocols when handling new or contagious animals.
  • Keeps the facility clean, safe, organized, sanitary, and presentable at all times.
  • Abides by intake protocols and procedures when processing new dogs.
  • Administers oral, topical, and injected medications to animals.
  • Assists medical staff with restraint, exams, and treatments.
  • Assists adoptions and foster staff with meet-and-greets, supply preparation, and pick-ups/drop-offs.
  • Ensures supplies are organized and properly stocked. Monitor all inventory and inform the Animal Care Manager of any needed supplies for both animals, staff or volunteers.
  • Trains and supervises volunteers to ensure safety procedures are followed. Informs volunteers of necessary tasks in a friendly, welcoming manner.

QUALITIES

  • Must be a dog lover and possess some knowledge of basic dog behavior and needs. Must be willing to get hands dirty, be flexible and reliable.
  • Must enjoy public speaking and communicating with a diverse group of volunteers.
  • Must have excellent customer service experience, proven attention to detail, good organizational and time management skills.
  • Must be a team player and have a positive attitude. Personable, professional, upbeat and energetic.
  • Ability to communicate skillfully and effectively with a diverse community in a professional, pleasant, respectful manner and use good judgement.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Must have at least 1 year of professional experience working with dogs in a kennel environment.
  • Must be able to sit at a desk in front of a computer for several hours. Constantly operates a computer and other office machinery.
  • Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs to help move kennel crates, dog food, and other supplies.
  • Must have proficiency with computers including word, excel, slack and google docs. Ability to learn new technology quickly.
  • Must have a current and valid California Driver’s License.
  • Must be able to work a flexible schedule that includes early mornings, evenings, weekends, and holidays.

SCHEDULING & BENEFITS

Salary: $16-18/Hourly Full Time: 32-40 hours per week Part Time: Minimum 15 hours per week, up to 25 Must be able to work a flexible schedule that includes evenings and both weekend days
