Our Adoption Process

We look forward to helping you find your perfect match!

  • Step 1

To start, we recommend filling out our online adoption application prior to visiting the adoption center. Adoption applications can also be filled out onsite but in an effort to keep our staff and community safe, we require proof of vaccination and wearing a mask prior to entering the facility.

  • Step 2

We suggest you fill out the application prior to visiting our adoption center. From there you will receive an email and/or text message confirming receipt of your application. One of our adoption counselors will then be in touch within 48 hours to review your application. This email/text occasionally goes into spam, so please check there should you not receive this confirmation. The email address from which you receive your confirmation serves as the Adoption Team's primary source of contact; please utilize that email if you see another dog you would like added to your application, have questions about the availability or temperament of a specific pup, or about our process at large. We do our best to answer emails within a 24 hour window. If filling out the application onsite, an adoptions counselor will then meet with you after submission to review your application and discuss our available dogs. Please note, filling out an application does not guarantee the ability to meet a dog at that time.

  • Step 3

Once you have worked with an adoptions counselor to find an available dog that is a good candidate for adoption, the next step is to coordinate a meet and greet with the dog of interest. During the meet and greet, you will have an opportunity to spend one-on-one time with the dog, ask questions about the dog's experience in their foster home (if applicable), take them for a walk, and seek any advice/recommendations from the adoptions counselor.

  • Step 4

Should you choose to adopt, you will work with an adoptions counselor to finalize the adoption in person. We will review our adoption contract with you, pass along a full copy of your pup's medical records, and provide information and tips to ease your dog's continued transition into your home.

  • Things to Note:

All interested adopters over the age of 5 must provide proof of vaccination and wear a mask prior to entering the adoption facility.

All interested adopters must be at least 21 years of age to adopt, please have a valid government-issued ID ready and available.

If you rent your home, apartment, or condo, please bring proof of your pet policy with you.

In order to adopt, all members of the adopter's home will need to be present at the meet and greet.

If there are other dogs in the adoptive home please bring them with you for the meet and greet to ensure they get along well with the new dog of interest.

Our adoption fees are as follows:

    · PUPPY (6 months and under) = $650 ($600 + $50 refundable training deposit.)

    · ADULT (7 months - 8 years) = $500

    · SENIOR (over 8 years) = $450

    · Note: We require a $50 refundable training deposit for puppies six months and under. When proof is provided, showing that puppy attended at least one training session/class by 6 months old (or within 1 month after adoption) the deposit can be refunded to adopter.

    · If the dog is not yet spayed/neutered at the time of adoption, an addendum will be included in the adoption contract stating that you will agree to work with Wags and Walks on getting the dog altered by a specific date set by the organization.

We have both dogs in foster homes and onsite at our adoption center, please note that the dog you are interested in may not be at our adoption center when you arrive.
