Foster Friday: We Love Our Foster Family!

Join us this Volunteer Appreciation Week in celebrating our amazing fosters!

Wags & Walks fosters play an essential role in fulfilling our mission to save as many dogs as possible. This is because each foster enables us to save two lives: the dog they take home and the dog that can now occupy that open kennel. Because of our amazing foster community, Wags & Walks has been able to rescue over 300 lives this year already.

Fosters are not only essential in helping to increase our life-saving capacity, but they’re also a vital part of the dogs’ adjustment from shelter to home. Taking home a dog who has just arrived from the shelter is a big responsibility, and our fosters tackle the challenge head on with so much love and care.

Oftentimes, dogs will arrive from the shelter or after being surrendered feeling shut down, scared, or confused. Our fosters are the reason these dogs learn to open up, feel safe, and become the happy dogs they were always meant to be. They make a difference not only to our organization, but in the lives of each dog they welcome into their homes.

Our fosters also help us to get to know our dogs even better, especially because they are experiencing firsthand how the dog is doing in a home environment. This information helps our adoptions team to best matchmake each dog.

In the words of our Foster Coordinator, Erica Fox, “Wags & Walks relies tremendously on fosters in order to rescue the amount of dogs we do at the rate in which we do. We are so grateful for our community of individuals and families who consistently open their homes to take in a dog in need. From dogs with medical needs to pregnant mamas or newly rescued pups that need a little extra TLC, we truly could not operate without our amazing fosters.”

We’d also like to acknowledge some of our rockstar fosters who have welcomed at least one pup into their homes each month so far this year:

  1. Hannah & Jane Fensterstock

  2. Michael Stellman

  3. Rachel Israel

  4. Behnoosh & Iliana Farzham

  5. Fiona Zhu

Thank you so much to all of our amazing foster families! We simply could not do our life-saving work without your continued support and willingness to care for our pups while they patiently await their forever homes.

From all of us at Wags & Walks, Happy Volunteer Appreciation Week!

If you are interested in fostering with Wags & Walks, please begin by filling out a foster application and we’ll be in touch! It’s completely cost free and requires a 2-week minimum commitment.
