Foster Friday Special Edition: Erica Fox

On this special edition of Foster Friday, we decided to change things up! Instead of chatting with one of our amazing foster parents, we sat down with our very own foster coordinator, Erica Fox. She shares her journey with Wags and Walks, fostering experience, and what makes an amazing foster. Read on for her story:

How long have you been working at Wags & Walks?

I’m coming up on three years at Wags! It’s crazy how time flies and I’m super grateful to be part of this community.

What got you into rescue?

Like everyone who works at Wags, I have been obsessed with dogs my whole life. My family dogs were always rescues so I never knew anything else. It wasn’t until I graduated college and moved to LA that the idea of having a career in rescue seemed actually attainable!

Have you ever fostered?

I have! I started fostering as soon as I moved into a dog friendly apartment. I fostered 6 or 7 dogs before meeting Opal. I told everyone I was just fostering her, but I knew all along that I would end up adopting (which I did a week later). My favorite foster besides Opal was an adorable red beagle mix named Tuna.

What do you love about your job?

My favorite part about my job is being able to show people how rewarding fostering is. I take pride in matching fosters with dogs that they’re going to love and that are going to fit into their   lifestyle. I try my hardest to make it as enjoyable of an experience as possible, so it feels awesome when people want to keep fostering over and over again.

What do you like least about your job?

It can be super stressful! A lot of times the only thing stopping us from being able to rescue a dog is not having space, so it can feel like a lot of pressure if I’m not able to find a foster for a dog.

Do you have a dog?

Yes! Her name is Opal. She’s 75% pittie and 25% bulldog. She is constantly making me laugh and her super short legs are everything.

What makes a good foster?

In my opinion, it’s not that hard to be an amazing foster. We provide all the supplies, so really all it takes to be a good foster is having a safe space for the dog and understanding that the dog might be shy, have quirks or take some time to open up. Patience is everything.

Thank you so much Erica for sharing your story with us! We couldn’t do it without you! Interested in joining our foster program, sign up and become a foster today!
