Featuring storytime with children’s book author Robert Vincent
Join Robert Vincent, author and illustrator of the acclaimed children’s book, “From the Pocket of an Overcoat,” for a live reading from his book on Saturday, March 23rd, 2023 from 9:00 am to 10:00 am as part of this month’s Wags Kids Paws & Pajamas literacy program, and in celebration of the book’s two-year anniversary. Based on a true story, “From the Pocket of an Overcoat” is a tale about an affable black cat, Max Buckles, and how he finds himself a new home by moving from the cozy overcoat pocket of a homeless woman in the city, to the country with Farmer Buckles and his other animals, including four dogs. This beautiful, hardcover children’s book reflects upon self-identity, acceptance, animal rescue and pet adoption; www.maxbuckles.com. Vincent’s ongoing mission is to help inspire children to become excited about reading and to support early childhood literacy. Vincent will be donating autographed books to children attending (while supplies last), as well as to the Wags & Walks library.
Children (ages 6-12) are invited to join Wags Kids for Paws & Pajamas, our monthly kids reading and humane education program! The benefits of reading to shelter dogs are praised by educational programs and rescue organizations alike, so we are excited to offer this program to our community.
Wags Kids are encouraged to bring a favorite book or two from home, or they can choose from our library of beloved dog books. After a brief safety orientation and mini-lesson facilitated by our staff, the kids will be paired with a pup to read.

A parent or guardian must be present. You may join your child for reading time or join us for coffee, tea, and light snacks in the lobby.

13th Annual Benefit Gala
Join us and host Max Greenfield for our fun-filled 13th Annual Benefit Gala, October 19th, 2024! Each year our gala brings together 500 donors, volunteers, adopters, community partners and celebrities with the goal of raising critical funds to support our life-saving programs.
This year, our goal is to raise $1.25M, enough to save 2,500 dogs in one night! As a sponsor of our gala, your brand will be aligned with our rescue's mission of promoting shelter dogs as the best dogs in the world.

Healthy Pets & People Wellness Event

Join us Saturday, April 13th for a day filled with wellness & pampering for you and your pup! You’re invited to Emerald Animal Hospital, around the corner from the Wags & Walks Adoption Center, 11-2pm wellness sampling & shopping for pups & people and a puppy therapy lounge!
We are also hosting mini puppy yoga during the event at our center around the corner (2236 Federal Avenue, Los Angeles, CA 90064), 11-11:30am and 11:30-12pm, with a suggested donation at the door!
K9 Grillz Non-Anesthetic Dental Cleanings
Did you know over 70% of dogs and cats have some degree of dental disease which when left untreated, can cause severe systemic disease?
In an effort to keep dogs in our community healthy Wags & Walks is teaming up with K9 Grillz to offer veterinarian supervised non-anesthetic dental cleanings at its West LA Adoption Center on Saturday, April 13th, 10am-2pm.

Animal Control follows a group of local Animal Control workers whose lives are complicated by the fact that animals are simple, but humans are not.
McHale stars as Frank, an opinionated, eccentric Animal Control officer who may not have gone to college but is still the most well-read person in the room. A former cop, Frank tried to expose corruption in his department, but his efforts got him fired, which may explain why he’s so cynical and curmudgeonly. He has an almost superhuman ability to understand animals. Humans...not so much. Can I bring my dog? YES! Please make sure they are up to date on vaccinations. Due to the mystery illness in dogs across the country, we have decided that we cannot allow puppies to attend the event as a precautionary measure.
Why can’t I bring my young puppy? In light of recent concerns regarding the mystery dog illness circulating, we want to prioritize the health and well-being of all our four-legged friends. While we understand the joy that puppies bring to any gathering, our decision is rooted in a commitment to the safety of all dogs in attendance.
How does this event benefit Wags & Walks? While the event is free to attend, there will be multiple opportunities to purchase swag. The profits from all sales will go directly to Wags & Walks!

On Saturday, November 11th, join Wags & Zooga teams 9-10 AM for a fun family and child yoga session with puppies plus light bites and beverages at our West LA Adoption Center (2236 Federal Ave. Los Angeles, 90064).
The class will be instructed by Zooga, a local family friendly yoga studio. A portion of all ticket proceeds go right back to our life-saving mission!

Things to note:
Open to adult chaperones and their walking - age 10 children. Babies in arms are welcome free of charge.
This class is for families and children, please sign up for our standard puppy yoga if you will not have children with you.
Intro yoga class including animal poses, partner poses, music, games and lots of fun!
Please do not bring your 4-legged bestie, we’ll supply the pups!

Best Friends Super Adoption Event
Join Wags & Walks at Best Friends Super Adoption Event!
After a 4-year hiatus, Best Friends Animal Society’s Super Adoption Event is returning to Los Angeles.
The 2-day adoption extravaganza will be held on Saturday, November 4 and Sunday, November 5 at LA Historic State Park from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., for a weekend of lifesaving.
There are currently 23 shelters and rescue groups have joined forces to help dogs and cats find loving homes! And t a time when shelters across Los Angeles are still currently at or over capacity, it's essential to adopt.

Wags Kids Paws & Pajamas!
Wags Kids will enjoy time with adoptable cuties all while learning about the importance of rescue and reading to pups!
This month we have a special treat just in time for Halloween
Storytime with children’s book author, Robert Vincent
Join Robert Vincent, author and illustrator of the acclaimed children’s book, “From the Pocket of an Overcoat,” for a live reading from his book on Saturday, October 28, 2023 from 9:00 am to 10:00 am as part of this month’s Wags Kids Paws & Pajamas literacy program, and in celebration of the book’s two-year anniversary. Based on a true story, “From the Pocket of an Overcoat” is a tale about an affable black cat, Max Buckles, and how he finds himself a new home by moving from the cozy overcoat pocket of a homeless woman in the city, to the country with Farmer Buckles and his other animals, including four dogs. This beautiful, hardcover children’s book reflects upon self-identity, acceptance, animal rescue and pet adoption; www.maxbuckles.com. Vincent’s ongoing mission is to help inspire children to become excited about reading and to support early childhood literacy. Vincent will be donating autographed books to children attending (while supplies last), as well as to the Wags & Walks library. To kick-off the Halloween season, kids are encouraged to dress in festive costumes.
Children (ages 6-12) are invited to join Wags Kids for Paws & Pajamas, our monthly kids reading and humane education program! The benefits of reading to shelter dogs are praised by educational programs and rescue organizations alike, so we are excited to offer this program to our community.
Wags Kids are encouraged to bring a favorite book or two from home, or they can choose from our library of beloved dog books. After a brief safety orientation and mini-lesson facilitated by our staff, the kids will be paired with a pup to read.
Please note:
A parent or guardian must be present. You may join your child for reading time or join us for coffee, tea, and light snacks in the lobby.
Register to reserve a spot for a designated Saturday or Sunday morning.
Space is limited, so all attendees must be registered and confirmed. No extra guests, please!
Pajamas are welcome, and close-toed shoes are required.
