In honor of National Love Your Pet Day, February 20th, we devote today's blog to a few of the ways we can show our beloved pets lots of love today, tomorrow and beyond!

One of the most important things as a pet owner is knowing to be aware of the way our moods and emotions can affect our animals. Our pets can absolutely sense when we are feelings tense, stressed, or anxious. Here at Wags & Walks we encourage the use of Young Living Essential Oils as a natural solution for People and their Pets, so they can have more energy and vitality, aka Prana, to live the best life possible!

We all know how it feels to give and receive love from our pets without even needing words. Acknowledging our pets for their ability to understand us through nonverbal communication can be done in numerous ways. Here are four ways you can honor your pet's innate wisdom and show them how much you care each and every day.

1) Set the intention to be with your pet UNINTERRUPTED for 10-15 MINUTES. Sense their energy and allow them to lead the tone of your time together. Are they showing signs of wanting to play? Do they want scratches or belly rubs? To rest? Quiet your mind and observe your pet. Give them the opportunity to be heard for at least ten consecutive minutes. This may allow your pet to feel seen and understood in a new way and reinforce your bond.

2) Is there an area of your pet's life that you could you maybe trust them in more? For example, is there an area of the home or yard that has been off-limits to them because of your fear they will be destructive? Our pets want to please us and giving them boundaries is a good thing, but is there is a boundary that is possibly more restrictive than it needs to be? Lengthen the proverbial leash and in so doing your animal may get a securer sense of themselves and deepen their connection with you.

3) How much time is your pet spending alone? Dogs are pack animals, and having a sense of community is vital to their health. They love to be included in their owners' lives. Create the possibility of including your pet in more of your life, even if it is having them with you while you do household chores, or bringing them in the car for a short trip to run errands. They want to be with you, and will likely enjoy being included from time to time.

4) Explore a new place with your pet. If you're walking, take them in a different direction. Maybe take them to a new dog park or on a hiking trail you haven’t taken before. Dogs thrive on stimulation and expanding their mental and physical landscape is critical to their overall health and wellbeing.

Our animals communicate their needs in different ways and it is our job as responsible pet owners to listen for what those needs are. Allow National Love Your Pet Day to be the inspiration to continue strengthening your relationship with your furry best friend through unique People, Pets & Prana offerings including Reiki, Hypnotherapy and Animal Communication in combination with Young Living Essential Oils and products!
